So this is my Lemon Series that I am currently working on. I first started doing pictures based on lemons in my Lemondrop and Sugarpop series, a cartoon series showcasing the sweetheart friends who have a preoccupation with lemons. This developed into a concept based on lemons/lemon-drops in general and what I associate with them.
When I first started this series, my goal was to show the dual nature of lemons and how they are a cheery friendly shape and color on the outside and sour/intense on the inside. I was interested in this contradiction and wanted to compare this contradiction in the series. I started with the lemon trees, which I viewed as the sweeter aspect of how I characterized the lemon. I used softer colors and safe, aesthetically pleasing subject matter. Within these pictures I also focused on other contradictions within the pictures, comparing organic patterns vs. structured, lights vs. darks in soil and sky, dormant branches vs. living lemons, and realism vs. ideal function of lemons(illumination).
I then wanted the contrasting comparison of these "sweet" tree pictures with something a little more provocative/brazen in both color and subject matter, and this is where the 'lady in the water ' came in. For me, this picture brought in a harsh interpretation of the lemon and little morbid humor I thought conceptually contributed to its 'sour' side.
The picture that I felt brought the two contradictions together is the lemon halves with the pucker face and the serene smiling face. With this the color and stylizing aesthetic was meant to balance the amount of pictures portraying the 'sour' aspect, plus the content played with both the brazen/sour and sweet aspect to the series.
The other picture in the series is included for what I personally associate with lemons/lemondrops, and is based off of the 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' lyrics that go,
"Where troubles melt like Lemondrops
High above the chimney tops..."
In my own personal interpretation of the lyrics, I see the lemondrops connotated as something sweet, but also contrasted with something bitter, aka "troubles". I like the contrast of ideas there, and thought it fit well with what i was doing.
The series is still a work in progress, so keep tuning in... more will probably be added.

This is a project I did for a photography class where the theme had to be our own personal views on politics/protest. I chose to do a monkey politician- no big statement, and for me this just seems appropriate.

my final print project from printmaking!!!!

This is my final project for Printmaking, the Aubrey Beardsley/ Bob Dylan head is a copper print done with a drypoint etching and a hardground aquatint technique, with one having watercolor tinting. The other three are wood blocks that I worked on like a mad woman over the weekend... and TaDAH! I have a Bob Dylan series.

Today is my my first blog posting and to start things off I would like to introduce myself. My name is Allison, and I am a seventeen year old junior in college. This may sound bizarre, but such is life and if you stay tuned you will have a special insight to just how unique and crazy I am. I enjoy living life to its fullest, hopefully some of it will rub off because, in my personal opinion, life's just a little more interesting when you actually live it. (Duh...)
